William "Bill" Monning is an American educator, lawyer and politician. Monning was elected to the California State Assembly from the 27th Assembly District in the 2008 Assembly election.
Since being sworn in on December 1, 2008 he has been picked by Speaker Karen Bass to sit on several committees including Assembly Committee on Budget, Assembly Committee on Labor and Employment which he was selected to head, Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxics Materials Committee, Assembly Judiciary Committee, Joint Legislative Audit Committee, Budget Subcommittee #5 on Information Technology/Transportation, California Coastal Conservancy, and Assembly Stimulus, Economic Recovery, and Jobs Task Force.
Prior to being elected, Monning served as a professor at the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California, teaching International Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. He is active in education, healthcare reform, civil rights, environmental work, international education, and human rights advocacy.[1]
